Ideas for Christmas Table Decorations 2023

Christmas is such a big time of the year, for families to get together, for fights to be put aside, to be grateful for what you have and to be kind to those who aren’t as fortunate, so that’s why we’ve compiled these ideas of table decorations for Christmas.

Of course, we do believe it should be like this all year round, but there’s no denying there’s something about Christmas that is just extra special.

And one of the best things about the festive season? The food, of course!

Having dinner round a big table or two is a great way to spend time with family and friends, and decorating the Christmas Dinnertable right, only adds to the festive cheer.

First of all, make sure you’ve got the perfect dining table for the occassion!

A nice sturdy one, suitable for all the food and faces around it. If you haven’t, check out our wide range of reclaimed wood dining tables handmade in our workshop.

Christmas chairs & covers for chairs

Also make sure you’ve got enough chairs, even if some of them are fold-ups! If you don’t have enough, we’d definitely recommend either buying some nice comfy ones like these or these – check out the pictures of these in action towards the bottom of this post, or invest in some nice cushions to make the harder seats a bit more bearable.

You can support other small business by purchasing some of their cushions, or why not try some seasonal seat coversor perhaps maybe not!

But beyond that, what else do you need?

Setting the Table for Christmas Dinner

Setting the table for Christmas dinner is incredibly important, so you want your table to look nice all the time, especially if you have a big open dining area, even before all the food goes on it!

We really like having small centrepieces that can add a little something in the run up to the big day and on the day. Nothing too bulky or difficult to shuffle out of the way when the turkey is ready, but maybe a rustic reclaimed wood candle holder with some soft colour candles or in gold.

A poinsettia plant is always a great seasonal addition, and if you look after it as well as my mum does hers, it could last you a few years!

Christmas drinking glassware, dinnerware and added extras

Make sure you’ve got plenty of Christmas drinking glassware, for any alcoholic beverages and also for some water! We really like these wine glasses,  and these champagne flutes are pretty fancy too.

Also make sure you’ve got plenty of Xmas dinnerware such as these big serving dishes, if you’re the ‘put it on the table and help yourselves’ kind of person. IKEA has a great range of affordable serving dishes, as does John Lewis, who even do a seasonal range.

Christmas Table Runner

Then why not look at maybe getting a Christmas table runner or tablecloth to add to the luxurious feel of the day? Festive ones in red, gold or green are always a winner, and here is a selection of ones we found that we think would look good in any room.

Add Some Sparkle with Candles or Lights

If you’re looking for some sparkle, try adding candles or lights to your Christmas decorations. They add an extra layer of warmth to any space.

Napkins for Christmas

Last but by no means least, don’t forget to have plenty of napkins for Christmas day on standby.

Plus, you can pop them on the plates to add a little extra to the setting until you’re ready to serve. Now all that’s left to do is pull the crackers and dive into a delicious meal!

Hang Snowflakes from the Ceiling

To hang snowflakes from the ceiling, use a piece of wire hanger with hooks attached to each end. Tie a string to the hook closest to the ceiling and then tie the other end of the string to the hook farthest away from the ceiling. Then, wrap the string around the hanger several times until it reaches the opposite side of the room. Repeat this process for every snowflake you wish to hang.

After reading this post, you should have some better ideas for Christmas table decorations. Do you have any ideas or traditions, no matter how strange they are, that your household always do each Christmas?
